YORKS’ BIG LEAD

INNINGS CLOSES FOR 364 N.Z. DISMISSED FOR 223 VIVIAN, 45, TOP SCORER HOWLING HONOURS SHARED (From the Special Representative of the United Press Association.) (Reed. July 13, 11 a.m.) LEEDS, July 12. The New Zealand cricketers made only a moderate showing against the strong bowling of Yorkshire, the side being dismissed for 223, giving the county a lead of 141 runs on the first innings. New Zealand began the day promisingly, but batted disappointingly. Revitalised bowling and good catching quickly disposed of the last five Yorkshire batsmen for 49 runs. Dunning shrewdly varied his pace and flight, his morning's figures reading 10 overs, two maidens, 26 runs, and three wickets.

Vivian and Lamason made good catches on the boundary.

The New Zealand batsmen always give the impression that it is they and not the bowlers who are being attacked. The Yorkshire bowling was strong and varied, and was supported by keen fielding.

Although Kerr and Moloney opened promisingly, and Wallace and Donnelly were aggressive, five wickets were down for 141.

Weir and Vivian, fighting determinedly, added 61 at a difficult time. The partnership was broken conveniently for the county just before the production of the second new ball, which quickly disposed of Vivian. He had batted for an hour, scoring five fours and one six. It was his most successful innings since the match against Middlesex. A follow-on was thus avoided, but the last three wickets fell cheaply, the effective resistance ending after tiie running out of Page. Yorkshire batted for an hour. The attendance was 6000. An unexpectedly good gate yielded £205. Tiie takings on Saturday amounted to £220. Scores were as follows:
