ROBBERY ALLEGATION
FRIEND OF FILM STARS BOYHOOD ESCAPADE LOS ANGELES, July 11. Cinema friends have rallied to the support of John Montague, who is awaiting the hearing of an application for his extradition in connection with an indictment issued in Essex County, New York, charging him with the robbery of £l4O. Bing Crosby, who was beaten by Montague at golf, in which the latter used a baseball bat, a shovel and a rake instead of clubs, said that. Montague’s cinema friends were backing him 100 per cent. The comedian, Oliver Hardy, at whose home Montague once stayed, offered to furnish £2OOO bail. The police say that Montague, whose source of livelihood has been a mystery in Hollywood, is actually Laverne Moore Montague. They said that the charge resulted from a prank when he was just a boy, but they intend to question him regarding other robberies.
