MUSSOLINI BANS MATCH
ITALY VERSUS AUSTRIA OFFICIAL PROTEST MADE (Elac. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) ROME. July 12. In consequence of the disorder which occurred at a football match between Italy and Austria at Vienna recently, when an Italian player made an offensive gesture at an opponent and a free fight occurred on the field, Signor Mussolini has banned a match to have been played between Italy and Austria at Genoa. He also ordered the Austrian players to depart within 24 hours when they pleaded for a withdrawal of the ban. An official of the Austrian Chancellory, acting on the instructions of the Chancellor, Dr. Kurt Schuschnigg, telephoned the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Austrian Legation at Rome concerning the matter. * It is understood that he made a vigorous protest. It is noteworthy that Signor Mussolini’s action in banning the match followed on Austria’s rebuff to Germany in rejecting Herr Hitler’s demand for an amnesty for Nazis imprisoned in Austria and the admission of Nazis to Dr. Schuschnigg’s Cabinet.
