R.S.A. APPRECIATION

HELP FROM THE PUBLIC TOLAGA BAY CEREMONY (llcrald Correspondent.) The appreciation of returned soldiers of the Tolaga Bay district for the help given their association by the public was expressed by members ot the Tolaga Branch of the R.S.A. at the close of the Uawa 'County Council’s meeting on Saturday, when the local president, Mr. O. G. James, handed to the council a memorial from Dominion headquarters.

•‘The council has always shown a sympathetic consideration towards the .ocal Returned Soldiers’ Association, and has on several occasions very generously donated funds for the assistance of the association and its objects,” he said. “The same remarks apply to a goodly number of residents within the county.

“The headquarters of the Returned Soldiers’ Association recently celebrated its twenty-first anniversary, and in view of the generous assistance given by the county councils in the past it had been decided to present to them some tangible token of appreciation and sincere thanks for the assistance given by these local bodies. I, therefore, have much pleasure in asking the council to accept this illuminated address signed by the Dominion president and general secretary of the association as a memento of the appreciation in which the council and the residents of the county are held for their many acts of kindness.”

Members Extremely Gratified

Mr. H. C. Fraser, a member of the association, said that he had great pleasure in associating himself with the remarks of the president and that all the members were extremely grateful for what had been done for them by the County Council and the residents of the district.

The chairman, Cr. J. McNeil, in accepting the illuminated address on behalf of the council, said that the members appreciated the spirit underlying the presentation of the beautiful address. In the past the council had always shown the utmost sympathy for the aim* and objects of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and he was pleased to be able to say that any recommendation for assistance to the association had always been unanimously approved by the whole council. The local association had recently passed through a trying and difficult period, and the council would cheerfully have assisted even more but for the fact that their resources are strictly limited. However, the appreciative spirit shown by the association would undoubtedly finally overcome all their difficulties.

“On behalf of the council,” continued Cr. McNeil, “I have much pleasure in accepting this beautiful address, and instructions will be given for it to be assigned a place in the meeting-room of the council chambers as a memento of the splendid fellowship that exists between the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Uawa County Council which I hope will continue through the years to come.”

The ceremony concluded with the singing of “God Save the King,” and cheers for the R.S.A. and the County Council.
