NEW WEATHER STATION WORK OF N.Z. PARTY (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, stated to-day that in pursuance of its aviation policy the Government had decided to send a small party to the Kermadec Islands for the purpose of carrying out preliminary survey work to enable the establishment of a meteorological and radio station in one of the islands of the group. The party will consist of Messrs. J. E. Anderson, a Public Works Department engineer, who will be in charge, A. H. Edmonds and L. Stanaway, of the Public Works Department, J. A. Henderson, surveyor of the Lands and Survey Department, F. B. Davison, ranger of the Internal Affairs Department, and V. J. Clinch, radio operator of the Post and Telegraph Department. The primary duty of the party is to thoroughly investigate the engineering problems' in connection with the establishment of the station, but advantage will be taken of the survey party’s visit to carry out certain other work in which other Government departments are interested, such as determining the geographical position of the group and making a thorough topographical survey and also the steps necessary under the recent Gazette notice constituting a sanctuary for the protetcion of native flora and fauna.

The survey party will be equipped with an emergency wireless set, which will enable it to maintain communication with and obtain instructions from Wellington as the work proceeds. The party will be absent from the Dominion for three to four months.
