PRAISE FOR NEW ZEALAND
GERMAN SEA CAPTAIN “WORTH FIGHTING FOR” (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. “This is one of the good countries of the world. It is a country worth working for and worth fighting for.” said Captain Max Schmitt, of the Hamburg-Amerika Line’s steamer Gera, in an interview to-day. This is the first visit of Captain Schmitt and, indeed, every member of his crew, has paid to this country, but during the stay at Auckland and a short sojourn at Wellington they have come to appreciate very much the hospitality extended to them, arm they have been impressed with the dominion’s picturesque qualities and the conditions under which the majoiity of people live. "There are a lot of grumblers on this earth,” said Captain Schmitt, “out I have been through a lot of countries and seen a good deal of the way people live in them, and in these few days I have spent here I have come to the conclusion that the people of these islands are living on a very good spot.”
