the full membership of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences makes the final vote on who shall receive the academy's annual awards, the original nominations of candidates for those awards are made by various committees, representing all branches of the picture industry. This year, the committee which nominated players to receive the awards for the best acting included Lionel Barrymore, Ronald Colman, Clark Gable, Edward Everett Horton, Harold Lloyd, Carole Lombard, J. Farrell MacDonald, and May Robeson.
