MOTU NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) The Motu School Committee met on Saturday night, Mr. F. Donaldson being in the chair. There was some discussion over the condition of the play ground at the school, and it was decided to approach the Education Board regarding asphalting a portion sufficiently large for a basketball court. The conditions at present do not allow of any sport for the children during the winter. The caretaker was reappointed for a further term. Funds for the annual school picnic and prizegiving were discussed, and it was resolved to hold a scries of five euchre tournaments at Motu commencing on July 17. Exceptionally wintry conditions prevailed on Saturday when the Motu and Matawai football clubs played at Motu. Neither club fielded a full learn, Motu having only 11 players and Matawai 13. The ground was a quagmire, and heavy rain iell almost continuously, making playing conditions most unpleasant. S. Bain and D. Richardson, Motu, crossed their opponents’ line, and P. Graham converted one try. Matawai did not score, the game ending Motu 8, Matawai nil. Mr. F. Reed was the referee. Next Saturday Motu plays Koranga at Motu.
Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Tyerman, Ruatoria, are spending a short holiday with Mr. and Mrs. T. Tyerman, Falls road, Motu.
