STREET BEAUTIFYING
SHEUBS ON FOOTPATHS ORMOND AND OWEN HOADS Approval for the Beautifying Association to plant shrubs at the town end of Ormond road and in Owen road was given by the Gisborne Borough Council last night. The Beautifying Association wrote stating tiiat the committee had agreed that holly would be suitable for planting in the town end of Ormond road. These shrubs would be planted on the footpath, and would be under the power and telephone lines. The association also asked for permission to plant suitable trees in Owen road from deLautour road to the river. The residents had agreed to raise the necessary money for the purpose. Cr. D. S. Thompson said he did not like holly for the low country, and suggested yellow kowhai, which was easily controlled. The request to plant holly or other suitable shrubs such as yellow kowhai in Ormond road was agreed to. and approval was given also to the Owen rorvi plan. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., Cr. D. S. Thompson, the town clerk, Mr, W. M. Jenkins, and the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, were deputed to represent the council at a conference between the Beautifying Association, the council and the Harbour Board to devise a scheme for the beautification of the vicinity ot the Cook Monument.
