ANNUAL MEETING MR. (!LEAVE’S RETIREMENT The annual meeting of it ho Poverty Bay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held in the Bright Street Methodist schoolroom last evening, the Rev. F. K. Lead ley presiding over a lair attendance ol members. Mr. Loud ley paid a tribute to the work of the society and the objects for which it was working. Referring to the finances, the treasurer, Mr. A. Cleave, slated that, the organisation had a credit balance of Affii ;; s |()il. This figure ’was considerably less than I lie balance of money in hand at the end of last year owing (o the fact that the society had uni received a contribution from the art union funds as in the previous year. The society’s inspector, Mr. F. R. Hill, reported that lie had investigated till cases of alleged cruelly and neglect during Hie past year, ns against (IS the previous year. There had been no definite cases of cruelty to report. Appreciation of (lie assistance tho society had received from the police was expressed by Mrs. 'I 1 , 'ferry, president of tin! society. The election of officers for the ensuing veilr resulted: President, Airs. T. Terrv; vice-presidents, Mesdames ,1. M. Alonekton, F. R. Hill, F. Redfearn, and 11. C. Wollbourne; committee, Mesdames A. R. Perry and W. T. Wain, .Misses F. A. Gillingham, McGregor, AL. Foster, K. Al. Uaklev, and F. M. Kenner, and Air. J. Oaklev; secretary and treasurer, Air. A. N. Jamison; honorary inspector, Mr. F, R. Hill; honorary auditor, Mr. F. 11. Forge; honorary solicitor, Mr. A. T. Coleman.

A tribute was paid to (lie services of Mr. A. (jleave as secretary over ari extended period, and regret was expressed that he had found if necessary to relinquish his duties owing to ill health. Mr. (Heave was tho recipient of a silver pencil as a token of the society's appreciation of liis services.
