BECOMING ACCLIMATISED
ECLIPSE EXPEDITON MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE (Reed. June 1, noon.) SYDNEY, June 1. A radio message from the solar expedition at Canton Island says: “All are well and becoming acclimatised. The beat and living conditions are not so severe ns bad been expected. We are using wreck timber for firewood iii an improvised steel stove made from a mast . carried half a mile, apparently by a hurricane. “This afternoon, for an hour and a half, the Americans broadcast a dedication service, a description of life on Canton, and personal messages from members of both parties. Sailors from both warships gathered before a Memorial Day monument, a concrete pyramid 4ft. high. A service by Father McNally and a prayer by Captain Hellwe'g were dedicated 'to “All men of all ships and all men of good faith who have, gone before us and made our progress possible. ’ ’’
