APPREHENSION IN CHINA
ANGLO-JAPANESE TALKS PRESS WARNING NOTE LONDON, May 27. The Hongkong correspondent of The Times says that several Chinese newspapers in Hongkong published ad identical leading article appealing to Britain not to enter into negotiations with Japan. It is asserted that an Anglo-Japanese rapprochement would damage SinoBritish amity, bring Britain into conflict with Russia, estrange Empire sentiment and affect Britain's security of trade. "China," the article says, "will maintain her sovereignty at. all costs."
