NEW WORKS FOR WATCH PAYMENT OFFPJR DECLINED LONDON, May 28. Every time that Sergeant James Crichto'n, V.C, of the New Zealand Coronation Contingent, looks at_ his watch, it will remind him of British hospitality, says the News-Chronicle, in relating how he accidentally dropped his watch, wrecking its works.
He look it to a well-known London firm. It was nearly worn out, said Sergeant Crichton,- but when it was handed back, he found the fkm had put into it entirely new works. He asked how much it would cost, and was told that as he was the holder of a Victoria Cross, there was nothing to pay. He was asked to accept it as a 'small token of their appreciation.
