TRANSPORT LICENSING
ADVICE TO OPERATORS MOKE RIGID. INSPECTION "I want to sound a note of warning that it is going to be easy for new licenses to bo obtained after this Kitting," said Mr. E. J. Phelan, at a sitting of No. 1 Licensing Authority ut Whangarei, "unless it can bo proved that there are not sufficient operators available in the districts concerned. \ am going to suggest to dairy compauies that a elauso ho inserted in loaders for carrying that tho tender may bo accepted subject to the successful tenderer obtaining a license.
"I do not want to appear pessimistic, but I would like to sound a •further note of warning that tho public works jobs cannot last for ever and applications for new licenses and additional vehicles which come before tho associations should be carefully considered beforo they are recommended to the authority for granting, as it would bo tragic to havo a lot of operators left high aud dry when public works decrease, probably in two years' time. '
Mr. Pliclan said that ho would like to state that in future the inspection of vehicles would be iinueh more severe and awards would bo strictly enforced. “Operators had better put their house in order before the inspectors make a systematic survey, ’ ’ said Mr. Phelan.
