WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
ORMOND MEETING On Tuesday the monthly meeting of the Ormond Women's Institute was held at Mrs. I'evreal's house, being opened by the singing of the institute ode. There was a good attendance of members. A vote of sympathy was passed to several members who had recently suffered bereavement. Mi's. dimming presented a bouquet to the new president, Mrs. D. Smith. As next month is the birthday of the Ormond institute, it was decided to celebrate it quietly. Mrs. Dixon donates the cake, and Mesdames Jones and Pardee will ice it. Mrs. Rogers gave a talk on how to preserve beans. The roll call, "What Our Grandmothers Hid Without," was fairly well responded to. The winner of the rose bowl was Mr. Colin Jones. Garden circle members were reminded that as next meeting day is a holiday it will be held a day earlier than usual. Some community singing was indulged in, and after a nice afternoon tea the proceedings closed with the National Anthem. POROURANGI W.I. A beautifully sunny day greeted the Porourangi Women's Institute for its .May meeting on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Hayes. Wai-o-niatatini. Following a memorable occasion, the lifting of the old ridge pole (taahu) of the Porourangi meeting-house to the new building, the president presided over a large number of members, including the circle. »
May 36 being the birthday of the Queen .Mother and president of the Sandringhuni institute—the Porourangi institute's link—(his was a real red letter day to all members who attended. Birthday greetings to Her Majesty are being sent. Letters were read by (he .secretary from one of the institute's members, Mrs. Kirk, from Sandiingham, in which if was menlioned that Queen Elizabeth had consented to be joint president with Queen .Mary of the Sandringliam Women's Institute. Another letter was received from Mrs. Wright, Motu, thanking the institute for its birthday cake. Tt was reported that, a very successful dance had been organised by the circle arid the mother institute in aid of the Porourangi meeting-house. The motto for the day was given by one of the elder members, Mrs. Collier, "Tu toliu ahiahi whakarere hapara."
