The Good Parent
YEHUDI Menuhin's mother believes believes that a good parent, “like a good gardener, lets the young plant grow without too much supervision. ’ ’ “Don't push and pull, never force, and don’t make up your children’s minds,’’ advises Mrs. Moshe Menuhin, mother of the 20-year-old violinist, who electrified the mlusical world ns a child prodigy, and of two musicallytnlented daughters. Here are some more of youthfullooking Mrs. Menuhin’s views nTiout rearing families: “A husband, a 'home and children are a woman's greatest happiness. No normal woman really wants to fling them all away for a career. “My first wish for my daughters is a happy home life. 1 have enjoyed motherhood, and T’d hate for my girls to miss it. “However, if they have an overpowering urge for a career in music at the sacrifice of these things, I would not block them although T would be disappointed. We have never found it necessary to punish or restrain.’’
