JT is not surprising that Ihe frequent kidnappings in America give the writers of fiction in other lands a 'theme for their mysteries. In "Ex-
tenuating Circumstances," by Elizabeth Nisot, two young children are kidnapped at .Marseilles apparently without motive, for the ordinary ransom is not. demanded. There are, however, false clues and charges, and while the reader may suspect the guilty party, certainty is impossible until (ho last clue is found.
