SHEEP PRICES FIRM INQUIRY FOR lIOGGETS At tlm weekly stock sale conducted by the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association at the Matawhero saleyards to-day interest centred mainly in the sheep section. A good sized yarding of store sheep came forward, and the sale attracted a. fair number of buyers. In both the store and fat sheep sections prices were generally maintained, an improvement being noticed in the demand for store hoggets. BEEF Only a few head of fat cattle were yarded, all being dairy sorts. The demand was slack, £3 9s being the best price for cows, and £2 19s the best for heifers. Prices: Cows. —Two Jerseys, £3 4s; 1 black, (p) .£3 ss; 3 Jerseys, (p) £2 9s ; 1 Jersey, £3 9s. Heifers.—Three Jerseys, (p) £2 19s; 1 Jersey, £2 17s 6d. FAT SHEEP In the fat slice]) section there was a yarding of 140, for which values were maintained. Ewes made from 22s to 23s sd, and second-grade ewes from 18s 3d to 22s 3d. Prices: Ewes. —Thirty-one at 22s lOd: 24, 22s 10.1; 9. 23s Id; 18. 22s 3d; 5. 225; 8,23 s sd; 1 6-tooth maiden, 25s 9d ;1, 245. Second-grade ewes.—Seven at 22s 3d ; 6. 20s; 28, 18s 3d. A few dairy cows were offered, ono springing heifer making .£6. STORE SHEEP For a moderate sized entry of store sheep values generally were maintained with an improvement in the demand for hoggets. Breeding ewes made 29s 6d for good 2-tooth, 27s 8d for 4-tootli to 6-yoir, and 24s 6<l for another pen. Best Hues of wethers ranged from 25s to 26s with those in good store condition from 23s lOd to 24s lOi.l. Hoggets made to 25s 6d for fat Southdowiis, 2Cs 6<i for fat and forward, ami 17s 10d to 19s 7d for best stores. Ewe hoggets sold to 26s 3d for a good lot, otherwise to 20s 6d. Empty ewes brought from 15s 4d to 19s; according to condition. Prices : Wethers.—Two hundred and thirtythree, good skins, good store condition. 25s 2d; 536, with condition, 265; ICO, good itore condition, fairly good size, 23s It ; 275, good condition, 25s sd; 235, g)od store condition, 24s lOd; 80 2-tootlj.s, good frame, good store condition, 23s lOd. Breeding ewes.—Eighty-five 5 and 6year, nedium to good condition, 19s 6d ; 45, 4-tooth to 6-year, ltonmey rams, in good iirder, 27s Bd, 68 2-tooths, r.w. {Sontln'own rams, well-grown in good order !9s 6d ; 45, 4-tooth to 5-year, r.w. Romney ranis, size and condition, 24s 6d; 43 r.w. Southdown rams, little condition, 11s 3d.

Hoggets.—One hundred and sixty-one, shorn late, fairly good size and condition, Ms 9d ; 71, woolly, good frame and condition, 19s; 734, shorn, good size and condition 17s lOd; 168, well-grown, shorn, with condition, 19s 7<l; 250, on aecourt of Mr. A. Steele, shorn, I pig, fat aid forward, 20s 6<l; 154, good size, woolly, good store condition, 15s lid; 519, a straight line, shorn, fairly good size nrd condition, 16s; 168, shorn, good size, pod store condition, 18s lOd; 12, big, g>od condition fion'thdowiis, mostly fat, 2fc 6d.
