At the. annual meeting of the Thames County Council, the chairman, Mr. A. Lowe, referred to the abnormal flooding which had occurred during the year.
He said that the expense of removing slips and repairing wash-outs bad been between £6900 and £7OOO. It would be necessary to expend at least another £SOOO in the endeavour to prevent further floods.
Mr. Lowe said that he had had advice from the Minister that the latter was prepared to recommend to the Cabinet £1 for £1 subsidy for £4500 to be expended on the Matakohe llood area for drainage. Another question which should receive attention was the clearing away of silt at the mouth of streams falling into the Waihou River, north of Hikutaia.
