WORK OF MR. BALDWIN
ARCHBISHOP'S PRAISE SPOKESMAN OF NATION (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, May 26. In the Upper House Convocation of Canterbury, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Cosmo Lang, referred to the impending retirement of the Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, and observed that Mr. Baldwin's place in 'the national life and the part he had played there was far wider and deeper than his influence as the leader of a great party.
Mr. Baldwin had proved himself a spokesman of the national spirit and he had pub before his countrymen great ideals which transcended all bounds of party. His appeal for peace in industry, his call to youth, and his call to the British commonwealth would never be forgotten.
