DUNEDIN MILK SUPPLY

PRODUCERS' PROTEST PULL INQUIRY SOUGHT Acute dissatisfaction among milk producers in the nearby farmiug districts of Dunedin, which has found expression in several meetings in the past few weeks, has developed since the amalgamation of the Dunedin Milk Producers' Association and the Taieri and Peninsula Association, and a strong organisation is now being formed.

Suppliers of milk for city consumption told a Dunedin pressman on Monday, that the now organisation had a definite aim toward which all energies were-being directed. Either there must 'be a straight-out co-operative milk supply company in Dunedin, owned by the producers and not by "dry" shareholders, to handle the retail trade in milk or there must be a municipal milk scheme conducted by the City Council. It is stated that by no other means can the existing difficulties concerning the price on the farm be overcome.

The milk producers have not been content merely to form themselves into a strong combination to combat retail companies. A protest has been lodged with the Commission - of Agriculture with a request that the whole question of milk supply in Dunedin should,be'made the subject of a thor- ! ough investigation. In response to these.representations the Commission of Agriculture will visit Dunedin next month to discuss the matter with both sides.
