WOMAN FLYER'S CLAIM
COURT'S £549 AWARD NOTED PILOT SUED EXPENSE OP RECORD BID (Eloc. Tol. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. May 26, 12 noon) LONDON, May 25. Mrs. Jill Wyndham to-day obtained judgment in the King's Bench Division for £549, with costs, against Flying Officer D. Llewellyn, with whom she broke the record for the flight to Capetown in 1935. The judge refused an adjournment on account of Flying Officer Llewellyn's absence.
Counsel stated that Mrs. \tyndham had pawned her jewellery for £6lO to finance the flight. She gave this to Flying Officer Llewellyn on the understanding that he was to repay the loan and also pay half of the bonuses resulting from the flight. She also defrayed his hotel expenses at Cairo and Capetown. lie did not repay the money. Slic had to sell her motor car in order to make a bank deposit against the payments, lie failed to keep appointments to make a settlement. Mrs. Wyndham denied that she said that if she were not allowed to go. she would wreck the'machine.
