Of the 6000,000 telephone subscribers in Loudon, there are 20,000 persons whose numbers are "silent," their names Tint being in the book. They have to have them that way because, if their names were listed, the telephone would ring fill day with people wanting to sell them everything from the Parliament Buildings to an oyster preserve in the Thames.
