COAST WELFARE OFFICERS

APPOINTMENTS MADE ADVICE FROM MINISTER, (Special to the Herald.) TE PUIA, this day': A letter has been received from the Hon. P. Eraser, Minister of Education, mentioning that it has been arranged for a permanent male welfare officer, and also a lady officer to be appointed. Mr. Fraser has also interviewed the Commissioner of Police about establishing extra police on the Coast, and the result of this matter will be definitely known later.

Inquiries were made in Gisborne this morning when it was learned that there would be a possibility of additional police being placed on the East Coast in view of the regulations pertaining to the six-day week. The 125 recruits for training were to go into Trentham camp on Thursday and their inclusion in the force would make it possible to place more men intthe various districts. No definite word had been received in Cisborne yet as to the strengthening of the force on the Coast.
