TOKOMARU BAY GOLF

CLUB'S OPENING DAY

LARGE ATTENDANCE (Herald Correspondent.) There was a large attendance of players and onlookers at the Tokomaru Bay clubhouse during the week-end for the official opening of the golf season in Tokomaru Bay. The day proved ideal for golf, and was not too cool, witli a slight north-westerly wind. The players took part in a mixed flag match, playing in foursomes, and the winners, Mrs. ,). Boag and W. Horlon, took the Hag to the twelfth green (Manuka). The system of handicapping was over the first nine holes. Other players also returned good cards, and were playing better than their handicap. Afternoon tea was dispensed at the clubhouse by the ladies to a large crowd of spectator's and players. The president of the ladies' club, Mrs. .1. S. Nugent, then drove a ball from the first tee. at which Mr. P. Thompson, the president, declared the season open. A special welcome, was extended to all new players and members, and to the ladies for the social assistance. The secretary, Mr. .1. B. Stafford, spoke of Hie proposed visit of "the professional, Mr. Guy, during the season, if the Coast clubs could guarantee support.
