ORIGIN OF MOTHERS' DAY

ENTHUSIASM IN AMERICA OBSERVANCE IN EMPIRE

Originating in America, "Mother's Day" is now observed each year practically throughout the world, on the second .Sunday in May. Its observance this year falls on Sunday May ft. This occasion is intended to be specially remembered by those away from home, who are intended to eater into a covenant with themselves not to lot this particular day pass without at least having written to mother and possibly remembering her as well by a gift, which will appropriately express the love and the regard which is felt for the one persons who never forgets. Those at home on "Mother's Day" are expected to show mother special consideration, to relieve her on this occasion of as much as possible of the domestic routine and to remember the occasion with some suitable tangible expression of regard in some gift that will please.

The day is also observed as far as possible by those who subscribe to this healthy sentiment, by wearing a white flower.

America celebrates the day with tremendous enthusiasm and its observance is extending rapidly, especially throughout the British Empire. Special addresses are given in Tnany of the churches and other institutions, including the Y.M.C.A. To set one day apart in this way as "Mother's Day" is merely to emphasise and express to mother that she is the breath of divinity and human life, and that she will be enshrined forever in our heart of hearts.
