Sidelights on the tipping system on overseas mail-boats were revealed in the County Court by a shipping clerk during the hearing of an action to-day. Anthony Darvnll, employed by the Orient Steamship Company, gave evidence that the lips usually given by passengers to England ware. £!j to the table waiter, 30s to 40s lo the head waiter, 20s to 2nS Co the wine steward, £o to the bedroom steward, 20s to the bathroom steward, 20s to 2f>s to each of: four lounge stewards, and 40s lo deck stewards, who were also indirectly dipped from sports fees.
