EXCLUSIVE UNIT TALK
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, April 28.
In a speech at Portsmouth, Sir Robert Home, the Conservative, member of the House of Commons for Hillhead, referred to Germany's recent demand for the restoration of her former colonies.
Dealing with German suggestions that the British Empire had become an exclusive unit, he recalled that last year Britain bought £32,000,000 worth of goods from Germany, and on her part Germany bought only £21,000,000 worth from Britain. The Empire bought ££4.000.000 worth from Germany, against £42,000,000 that Germany bought from the Empire. There was no country in the world that could better be described as a "have not" country than Britain.
"We do not control our Dominions," he added. "In getting foodstuffs and ia\v materials from our Dominions we have got to pay for th'ein, and Germany can get them in exactly the same way, by exactly the same methods."
