CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIPS

TO-DAY’S EARLY PLAY

Favoured by ideal weather conditions, the Gisborne and East Coast Bowling Centre's annual rink championship tournament opened this morning on the Gisborne green. Five teams, including representatives of the three-town clubs, Te Ivaralca club and Tokomaru Bay club, contested the championship title. The first round was comploted and tlio second round well under way before the luncheon adjournment. Despite the recent heavy rain, the greens were playing well, though they were expected to become keener as the day progressed. Early results are as under: — FIRST ROUND W. F. Robb, Kcndrew, S. Waite and F. Williams (s), Gisborne, ID v. B. L. Power, K. B. Watt, P. W. Smith and R. Jenkins (s), Kahutia, .IG. The Gisborne team, who had the lead throughout the match, had 18 points to Kahutia’s nine on the sixteenth head. In the concluding stages Kahutia made a recovery and reduced their opponents’ lead considerably, the final score being 11) to 1G in favour of Gisborne.
