ELECTRICAL WORK

MACHINES INSTALLED NO PERMIT HELD (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The Electrical Wiremen's Registration Board proceeded against Albert Guthrie Tasker before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Wairoa Magistrate's Court yesterday for having carried out two electrical installations without a permit from the licensing body, and not being a registered wireman.

Mr. C. R. Sainsbury appeared for the prosecuting, body and stated that a traveller lor Beattie Bros, selling a washing machine installed two machines, and lelt them with a lead on to a iioor. If the floor was wet a person was liable to be killed, or at least severely burned, or receive a shock. The defendant had been already warned not to do wiring without leave of the Power Board.

James Black, farmer at Nuhaka, stated that about November 15 he had a washing machine installed by a man whom he did not know. The latter left it connected up, and no one else touched it. The floor was a wooden one, and the lead was put through the wall. C. J. P. Drewitt, engineer to the Wairoa Power Board, said' the board was the licensing authority for the district. Witness had seen the installation,' and it was not according to the regulations. He had not been notified of the installation, which was not earthed. Any small defect in the wiring on a wet floor might have fatal effects. When he tackled the defendant about it he said he had installed it, admitting he was not a registered wireman, and, in fact, knew nothing about it. Tho installation might easily make contact and cause a person at the machine to receive a severe shock, or be killed. A second charge was laid in respect to an installation at Ormond's, Mahia, the lead in this case being taken through a window. The defendant admitted having made this installation also. Mr. Sainsbury pointed out that the defendant was liable to a fine of £lO.

His Worship fined defendant £2 on one charge, with costs £2 Is, and on tho second charge £4, with costs £1 14s.
