SHARK’S FATAL ATTACK

NEWCASTLE TRAGEDY MAN’S BODY MUTILATED SYDNEY, Feb. 14. A shark tragedy occurred on Newcastle beach on Saturday afternoon. Jack Welsh, aged Jig, was swimming with two companions 150 yards from the shore when a large shark attacked him several limes. Both his legs were dreadfully mutilated above the knees. One arm was also mutilated.

The body floated ashore a few minutes later on the crest of the breakers. Death had apparently been instantaneous.

A companion, Herbert Street, stated that he heard Mr. Welsh give a faint erv and disappear under the surface. He realised it would be futile and positively dangerous to try to help him. He saw the shark’s Jins during the attack.
