•a refill play, in which four fours won' hit. Most imtsmon took matters carefully. T. McKenzie, who did most of the howling, commanding respect. lie bowled Hi overs, four of which were mi ideas, and took five wickets for .'lB.
Wairoa made 108, the best partnership being the opening one in which '), Brown and P. Ilelcan put on 211. M. Couper with 1!1 made the top score for his side, making a valuable stand and coming in when only 87 runs wen 1 on the board for the loss of eight wickets. 0. Sebire took four wickets for 30.
Following on, Wairoa made a bad start, having four wickets down for 15. T. Colley and P. Brown raised tin 1 core to 35, while Brown and hi. Broker added 34, making the score 60 for six wielcets when they were separated. McKenzie partnered Croker to bring the score to S 3, and the innings closed at 94. A, Bignall, although exocnsive in two of his four and a-half overs, took five wickets; 37 runs were scored off him. Hart kept the batsmen quiet, and in five overs took three wickets for 13.
Poverty Bay required only three nins to secure an outright win, and 111 minutes were left for play. Thompson hit a four with the first ball, and ended the match. Scores:—
