Against wind and tide, the .sculling events in' the Napier one-day rowing regatta were decided this morning .on the Ngaruroro River. There was not a large attendance during the morning, but it improved in the afternoon. Conditions on 1 the river about noon were improving.

Poverty Bay made their hold on the Colley and Kirk Shield secure when they won both the senior and-youth doubles event.

Wairoa had a good chance of capturing the Neild Shield for single sculling, with four points in hand, after the early races had been decided. The decision for the Shield in this event rested with the result of the youth race.

This afternoon* the races in the four oar and pair-oar events will be decided. ;V •-' • -'•■■V..

Won by three lengths, with one length between second and third. Time, Bmin. 26sec. V'ouths' Doubles (three starters). — Poverty Bay, 1; Wairoa, 2; Gisborue, ;!. - Won by one length, with 10 lengths separating second and third. Time, Smin. 12sec.

Junior Singles (3 starters). —Wairoa, 1; Gisborue,. 2; Poverty Bay, i'. Won by half a length, with six lengths between second and third. Time, Omin. 41 sec.
