WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MATAKAOA MEETING' 'flic Matakaoa Women's Institute held a very enjoyable social afternoon last Saturday. After the beautiful institute creed had been read, it was explained that; if was written by Mary Stewart, a Canadian, belonging to the United States Department of Labour, and had found a place among women's societies all over the world, ft was a wonderful declaration of faith ill humanity, and a plea for tolerance ami charity in dealing with one another.
Attention was drawn to I lie fact that the 0.8.8. bad been conferred on MisS .Jerome Spencer in the New Year honours and it was decided to send a letter of congratulations to her. *
The members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mrs. Bibby, Waipawa, Mr*. A. Hicks, Te Araroa, and Mrs. A. Boyd, Gisborne, who had passed away since the last meeting of the institute.
An enjoyable item of the social afternoon was "The Bishop's Candlesticks," u one-act play, read by Mrs. Black. A vocal item by Mrs. Fairlie and accompanied by Mrs, Clark was another enjoyable feature of the programme.

Tl'Al MEETING The Tuai Women's Institute held its monthly meeting on Wednesday. The roll-call was "Knock Knock." and some of tlm replies were very humorous. The competitions resulted:—Dressed golliwog: .Mrs. Bumsteud, 1; Mrs. Munro, 2. Shortbread: Mrs. Brcen, 1; Mrs. Kban. 2. Victorian posy: 'Mrs. Jones, 1 : Mrs. Xieol, 2.
The hostesses for the evening -were Mesdames Dawson and Jones. The function terminated with the National Anthem.
