THE BLEDISLOE CUP
ARRIVAL IN GISBORNE ON PUBLIC DISPLAY The Bledisloe Cup for Maori farming, to be presented to the winner, Mr. Henry Dewcs, Tikitiki, on March 2, has arrived in Gisborne, and is on display in the window of Messrs. Good and Company.
The cup is a massive one. The cup itself is 22in. high from base to tip, and stands on a plinth 6in. thick and 12in. in diameter. The total height from the base of the plinth to the tip of the cup is 28in. The cup was delivered in a case about 3ft. tall.
Handsome and appropriate engraving adorns the cup, which is of solid silver. One side is given up to an engraving of ancient Maori life, including primitive Maori methods of cultivation, the carved whare, the canoe and raupo. (>n the other side, the engraver has depicted modern farming methods with the plough, together with farm animals. The trophy. arrived at the premises of Messrs. Good and Company yesterday afternoon, and was placed in the window later in the day.
