BARTLETT'S NEWS

BILLIARDS AND SNOOKER (Herald Correspondent.) On "Wednesday evening the final of the billiard tournament was played in Bartlett's before a large number of spectators, the players being Mr. 11. King and Mr. F. Foilghy and the contest being 30ij up. It was a. very interesting game. .Mr. King got a lead with 10 points at the commencement, but Mr. Fonghy caught him up and from then on the scores were fairly even until the end, both playing cautiously. Mr. Fonghy was the winner by 19 points. The snooker tournament which had concluded a few evenings previously was won by Mr. A. Anderson, who beat Mr. M. L. Gravson. their game seeing a. close finish.

A community sing, with lantern slides, was held on Wednesday evening, arranged by Mr. I). A. Morton in aid of the Christmas tree fund. The camp orchestra provided the music for the songs. There were about 70' adults and children present and a small charge was made. Sister A. M. Bourke arrived at Bar! lett's yesterday from Auckland to coin mence her duties as nurse for the Wharerata Mediral Association. Last evening the residents of Bartlett's were given a musical treat by 16 members of (he Gishorno Military Band, under the eotidiietorshin of Mr. George Douglas, and Mr. Henri de Lisae's 'irchestra of eight conducted by himself. In the first half of the programme the ' and played several selections. Mr. A. Seal sang some comic songs. Mr. D. Lee gave recitations, and Mr. IT. Nunns nlayed a cornet solo, fn the second half the orchestra played a number of fine selections. Mr. Seal sang more comic songs. Mr. Henri de Lisac plaved a violin solo accompanied bv Miss E. Watson, the oianist of the orchestra, and a, sketch entitled "Socks." by Messrs. E. Sharpies. A. Seal and D. caused much amusement. There was not a large audience and (hose who did not attend missed a splendid evening's entertainment. !
