ISLANDS OF PACIFIC
EXTENSION OP TREATY
QUERIES IN TOKIO
(Herd. Oct. 8. 2 p.m.) TOKIO. Qet. 7
'The Japanese Foreign. Office has not vet. received the British Note regarding an extension of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1952.. so as'to maintain the status quo regarding the non-fortification of islands in fhe. Pacific.
It is believed that. Japan will approve of the spirit: and aim of the proposals. but will carefully consider her reply. because the areas concerned, chiefly are the P.onin. Loo-Choo, and Fonnpsa Islands, vital to the home' defence of Japan, while England and the United Stales are .restricted only in regard to their outlying possessions.
