Opposition to the proposals of general synod lo take away from diocesan synods the right lo elect bishops to vacancies was expressed by the Anglican Synod for the diocese of Dimedin. The present system was described as haphazard tii'il vory difficult, and so that advice on the names submitted for election should be provided synod suggested Ihiit- tin adviscny board consisting of no fewer titan three bishops of the province of New Zealand should attend the electing synod to advise regarding the mimes submitted, these bishops not in have voting power.
