m dhNIONS OF CONGRESS ► ■ ...Ground organisation f assistance op radio (Per Press Association.) W WELLINGTON, this day. It the congress of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire to-day, Mr. F. W. Parsons, of London, proposed a motion with reference to the Empire air mail scheme. .. The motion was: "That this, congress welcomes the British Governments scheme for the carriage by air, in 1937 of imperial first-class mail matter without surcharge. While appreciating the great value, of this development to the business community, the congress urges -that air mails should be operated on a 24-hour schedule, and further that the ait_mail services should cover at least ] aOTjiniles in 24 hours. . - "To this end the congress desires to impress upon the Governments of the Empire the great importance of providing, without delay, adequate grouna organisation along the Empire air routes in order to make easy the possible operation of air mail services by night as well as day." The motion was carried. * A-further resolution dealt with radio i&M. It urged His Majesty's Goverhxa&i&s to use their influence at the international telecommunications conference in Cairo in 1938 to ensure that the wavelengths allocated for life by aircraft should be exclusive to them and sufficient. A further resolution sought a. reduction ! of the high rate of postage on letters sent by air mail, and urged that the minimum weight of a letter fhfrtild be reduced to a quarter of an Oimt'e. ■ .
