EVIDENCE OF BURNING

Evidence that a birch forest grew and was burnt thousands of years ago on the sile of Ashlurton has been revealed by excavations' hr a building.
After going Ift. through solid clay, the contractors encountered a, layer of black soil in wiich a- number of small logs, excellently preserved, and also a small pocket- )f charred wood were found.
