GENERAL GOMBOS DEAD
HUNGARIAN LEADER SOLDIER AND STATESMAN MUNICH, Oct- o. The death of General Julius Gombos, the Prime Minister of Hungary, has occurred, after a long illness. He was 50 years of age. A Hungarian soldier and .statesman, Lieut.-General Julius de Jakfor Gombos, took part in the Serbian and Russian campaigns in 1914 and 1916. He be--came president of the Hungarian National Defence Association in 1919, and during the Communist dictatorship organised a counter revolution from Vienna and Szeged. He was elected as a member of the- Hungarian Parliament- in 1920, subsequently playing a leading part in the frustration of attempts- bv Charles TV to return to the throne. lie joined the Unionist Party in 1928 and was appointed next year as Minister of Defence, becoming the Prime Minister in 1932.
