MINE WORK HELD UP
AWARD IN DISPUTE TROUBLE IN OTAGO ’ (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night. As a result of a stop-work meeting hold -by* the miners, work at the Tanitu collieries, neat Kaitai'gnta, has boon at a standstill since Monday morning. The mines have been working since .Tulv .1 under an Arbitration Court award of 1931. A few weeks ago the Taratu Miners’ Union applied for a new award. Among the demands a seven-hour day was included and, on the consent of the parties at a Conciliation Council meeting on August 8, the matter was referred to the Arbitration Court.
The Kaitangata Coal Company’?, mines are not affected by the dispute at present.
