The proposal of the Gisborno club in regard to the conduct of district regattas was as follows : That the present system of holding two separate regattas on different courses for competition tor Die lour shields now controlled by the association be discontinued, and that om inter-club one-day regatta be held or competition for the same four shields, and that Hie following programme bo adopted for the one-day regatta ; L.V.A. Four-oar Shield; senior, junior, welterjunior. maiden, lightweight and youths races; Harris and Hill Shield (pair-oar), senior and maiden races; Colley and Kirk Double-sculling Shield, senior and maiden races; Neill Single-sculling Shield, senior and maiden races. No difficulty arose regarding the acceptance of the first portion of the proposals relating to the one-day fixture, but lengthy discussion occurred in respect to the programme tentatively put forward by the sponsors of the remit. On the motion of Mr. Ardern, seconded by Mr. Hill, it was agreed unanimously to confine district regatta competition to the one day in each season, and after further debate it was decided to discuss each shield series separately. Relating to the four-oar trophy, Mr. Seeats moved that this competition consist of six events, as outlined in the remit, the motion being defeated bv seven votes to six. and the result being that the competition retains' the five classes into which it has been divided in recent years, . In regard to the Harris and Hill Shield, for pair-oar rowing, Air. Ardern moved that the five classes in this competition be retained, Mr. Hill seconding this motion. Mr. Allen moved an amendment, with Air. Michie’s support, that the competition be reduced to three events, and a further amendment was offered by Air. Neilson, with Mr. Scents seconding it, that four events be included in the competition. On the latter amendment being put to the meeting, it was carried by seven votes to five. Later it was decided that each of the other two shields should be competed for is four classes, the elimination of one event, from each of the shield series being left to a later meeting. CONFERENCE DELEGATE On tiie motion of Afr. Allen, it was decided that (lie lion, secretary, Air. K. A. Bell, he asked to attend the annual •onferciico of the New Zealand Lowing Association, to be held in Wellington on October 29. in order that the district association might benefit from his firstHand knowledge of national developments n the sport. Legarding the season’s regatta for the trophies under the control of the association, it was decided, on Air. G. Ardent’s motion, to ask the Napier club, as holder of two of the shields, to agree to the regatta being held on the Wairoa Liver. The meeting tendered its thanks to many organisations and private individuals who had given services to the sport during the past year, and the business was closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.

Entries for the Poverty Bay Rowing Club's First Trial Fours series, which closed last evening!, proved sufficient to fill 12 crews, the committee of the club expressing satisfaction at its weekly meeting with the sustained support of old members, and with the number of newcomers to the sport.
