An interesting educational talk was was given to the members of St. John Ambiance Brigade and Nursing Division by Mr. R. A. Dickson. Mr. Dickson’s lecture embraced the effect of louses on the eyes and their means of breaking up, of light, also touching! on certain optical illusions, which are known to all, but the reason for them unknown to many. At the close of the meeting a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Air. Dickson for his very interesting lecture. Matters relating to New Zealand’s eentennial were considered at a meeting in Tauranga of Mayors, chairmen and members of local authorities in the Bay of Plenty. The Mayor of Tamanga,, Mr. L. R. Wilkinson, presided. The Mayor of Opotiki, Mr. G. S. Moody, said lie thought the Bay of Plenty might work as one area. One combined committee would achieve the best results. He therefore moved that a committee be appointed comprising representatives of the local bodies throughout the Bay of Plenty, and representatives of the Maori race. The motion was carried.
