WAIROA BRANCH MEETS
ADDRESS ON SCHOOL MUSIC
(Herald Correspondent.) A meeting of the Wairoa branch cf tho New Zealand Educational Institute was held on Saturday in tho Wairoa District High School, Miss Bain presiding over an attendance of 30 —the best attended meeting for some years. After the routine business had been concluded, Air. P. G. Lewis, inspector of schools, addressed the meeting on “School .Music.” Mr. Lewis pleaded that music be allotted its proper place in tho curriculum, anil suggested the amount of time that should be devoted to it. Do showed that definite progress must be made from class to class, i.lie speaker (hen passed on to discuss certain phases of class-room practice, giving valuable advice as io the use of the piano and the teaching of voice exercises, sight reading and rhythm, as well as practical suggestions for the teaching of new songs. Mr. Lewis amplified his remarks by blackboard and pianoforte illustrations. At tho conclusion a hearty vole oi thanks, proposed by Mr. Huston, was accorded Mr. Lewis‘for his very interesting and instructive address.
