The first match in the October handicap of the Gisborue Rifle (Cub competition took place on the Mangapapa range on Saturday afternoon, when, 20 marksmen were, present, and some excellent scores were registered.
The match comprised 10 shots at 200 yards, twice, with a possible score of 100. A. Ford, with a very line effort, scored, a double possible to secure first place, F. J'. Jeuuo being runner-up with the help of a one point handicap ; Jus aggregate reached 99. The handicapping proved very close, as the twelfth competitor bad a. score of 97 out of 100. The 'first service match was also fired; this called for live shots af live tiles in 2'Csee. 'The winner. L. Grey. secured three hits, plus four points handicap making an aggregate of 19 points out of a possible of "25. Second and third places were filled by C. Lloyd and I'. Burson, both, with gross scores of 17.
The president. Air. R. O. Hull, has donated, a very valuable trophy for the championship, and this should encourage keen interest in this series as the season progresses.
