AGREEMENT WANTED

Tiio .sooner Australia got Japan back to trade with her on a satisfactory basis, the better for the Australian wool industry and for Japan also, said the Prime .Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, to-day. "The Federal Government will do everything within reason to bring that about," said Mr. Lyons, who was speaking at the Federal Royal Show luncheon. "The Government is confident thai negotiations will be successful," he said. "The absence of Japan, it, was thought, would have a serious effect, but it has turned out to be not the case." Dealing with the Budget, Mr. Lyons said that relief of taxation meant a new incentive to trade, and, in turn, there was increased employment and a further improvement in the best market of all, the home market. "We have assisted most primary industries during difficult times," Mr. Lyons said. "Since 19H2 the Commonwealth Government has found £14,000,000 for wheat alone.

Wheat sold last, year amounted to £27,0,00,000, an increase of £0,000,000 on ,thc year before.

"This year we arc going to see a substantial increase. That indicates the extent to which that one product, .will aid the national income. "Wool aided our national income last year by £58,000,000." Wonderful progress had been made in the dairying industry, Mr. Lyons said. In, (he past five years exports of butter had increased by 112,000 tons.
