NATION-WIDE STRIKE
THREAT IN AMERICA MILLION WORKERS HIGHER PAY DEMANDED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) NEW YORK, Oct. 3. It is disclosed that the Workers' Alliance of America is planning a nationwide strike or an equivalent demonstration at the end of the month. One million employees of the Works Progress Administration demand a 20 per cent increase in pay and certain other conditions. "The strike plans will take definite shape when the national executive board meets at New York within 10 days under the chairmanship of Mr. David Lasser, the national chairman," stated Mr. B. Sexton, head of the New York branch of the alliance. The demands are virtually the same as those the alliance has already made in New York and Minnesota without success. The Government authorities recently said that in the case of a strike against the Works Progress Administration, its projects would be cancelled if necessary. Nevertheless, the organisers are at present touring the east and mid-west, shaping their plans for concerted action.
