PIGEON FLYING
GISBORNE CLUB RACE FROM WHANG AKEI A further race of the Gisborne Flying Club's old bird season was held on Saturday from Whangarei, an airline distance of 238 miles, Fine weather prevailed, and, .aided by a following wind, the birds registered fast times. The birds were liberated at 7 a.m. c\iv\ shortly afler 12.40 p.m. the first bird wns timed in, the winning entry covering the distance in 61ir. 42-min. 7sec. at a record velocity of 1480yds per miu. This velocity is slightly over 50 miles an hour. The previous record from Whangarei, held by A. Round's Black -Adder, was 1364yds per miu.

The Poverty Bay Homing Pigeon Society held ii race from Napier on Saturday, an airline distance of 83 miles. Ninety-two birds were entered, representing 17 lofts. The first bird timed in was P..
