The occasion was I marked by brief ceremonies at each, of the "greens, and ah exchange of mutual goofr wishes by representatives of the "respective clubs, while visitors from the IcoaSfc and country areas also presented their compliments and good wishes. i At the Kahutia club's greens, there was'a large attendance of bowlers and 'their friends'; when,Mr.. W. Jackson, president of the club, offered'a welcome f to bowlersi and other guests on behalf of 'the".club. McKenzie also spoke on behalf of the Poverty Bay club; wishing the Kahutians a successful season. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Mr". W. Partridge, Strangers' club, and from Mr. J. S. j Wilson, president .of .the Wairoa club, l Mr! Jackson announced.

The usual ceremony of sending down the kitty and the first bowl was carried out by Mrs. Jackson, wife" oE the Kahutia president, amidst applause from the bowlers and others present.

GISBORNE CLUB ; MANY NEW MEMBERS With a large attendance of bowlers and' their wives the Gisborne Bowling Club,"held its official'openings-to-day. The "president of the club, Mr. C Henderson, extended a hearty welcome to bowlers and visitors. -.-,, "To-dav is a red-letter day for the club," declared the speaker,- "there be-ing-no less than 32'new. members this season." As far as he knew this, was a rec6fd for the club, which to-night would hold the opening of its floodlight bowling'session, to which he extended a welcome to all interested. It was with satisfaction that he could 6tate that the greens -were better than they' had been for some time, but the rlub'hoped to still further improve them. It was the club's intention to acquire one of the fctfst mowers specially suitable for keeping the greens well cut. Mr. Henderson outlined some of the club's successes in past years and put forward the claim that Gisborne bowlers were as good as those anywhere. He desired to specially' thank the ladies for their assistance.

A- Mace, vice-president of the centre, on the condition'of'the greens and the surroundings;. He apologised for the absence.of! the president, but' as the centre representative he. desired to thank the clnh for its invitation. The centre had asked him to convoy its thanks to the club for the "use of ] the 'Ereens for all its centre tournaments. The club's action was greatly appreciated bv all bowlera.

Mr. Mace outlined the itinerary of the centre's proposed visit to the South Auckland centre.

Subsequently Mrs. Henderson performed the opening ceremony, rolling the first bowl.
